Cincinnati based Brianna Kelly crafts songs that attach themselves to a fleeting connection with the unseen world while rooting itself in a very real topography and landscape. A submission to a force that continues on with or without our attention/devotion. In her liturgical drone-pop songs Brianna weaves hypnotic drones and swells through “When You See It” and “Sanctus” while recalling Julianna Barwick and Grouper in their sedated push and pull. “To Behold You” is held sway under the plodding gloom of Planning for Burial’s linear heaviness.
Brianna also plays guitar and sings in the band Soften.
The third tape in Whited Sepulchre’s split series, Brianna’s floating melodies are tethered to this world by Sympathy Pain’s aching slowgaze.
Birthed from the same SLC creative community that brought forth artists like Stag Hare, braeyden jae and Seven Feathers Rainwater, Skyler Hitchcox has been crafting trembling guitar-based drone-heavy compositions since the early-aughts under the name Silver Antlers. Sympathy Pain represents the truest and most distilled version of Skyler’s emotional heft. Striking a balance between death-to-crescendocore post-rock, static-filled droning and skyward guitar lines, Skyler is joined on keys by Cult Leader drummer Casey Hansen, imbuing these two compositions with living shadows and dead reflections.
Press:
"Similar to labelmate Midwife’s Like Author, Like Daughter, ‘To Behold You’ is a lush, moody piece to soundtrack careful walks through your neighbourhood after a blizzard. The front half of the track is instrumental, dominated by reverberating guitars and slow, silky melodies. When Kelly’s multi-layered vocals enter, it’s like hearing ghosts being exorcised from other ghosts, like a matryoshka doll. Listen to this track and feel a sort of windswept wonderment with every note." - The 405
"That sense of flowing nature is palpable in Kelly’s four gorgeous new tracks, which are gradual and patient but also constantly in motion. Her thick, echoing guitar wraps around her meditative voice like grass spreading across the roots of trees." - Marc Masters, Hi Bias
"Avoiding the often unavoidable fragmentation often associated with split records, the songs here flow into each other with ease, transitioning organically and balancing each others sonic and emotional spaces while also providing a strong sense of pacing and direction throughout, the aural equivalent to a long walk in the woods at night; the sights, sounds, and smells constantly changing alongside the thoughts and emotional responses that provide them context." - Stone in Focus
"Her new solo EP — a split cassette with Utah Drone outfit Sympathy Pain — takes this ethos to its aesthetic extremes. Oceanic pulses of guitar, keyboard and discarnate vowel sounds loop into a tranquil nothingness, sometimes slightly chopped like a lo-fi Hip Hop beat sans drums." - CityBeat
